Revitalize Your Smile with a Crown at Perry Vale Dental!
Crowns and Bridges Perry Vale
Tooth Crowns, commonly known as ‘tooth caps,’ are a simple and cost-effective way to enhance your smile. They are used to restore and protect a damaged tooth by encasing it completely. Crowns can improve your oral health and boost the appearance of your smile. Read on to learn more about our services!
Understanding Dental Crowns
Crowns are a full-coverage restoration that replaces missing tooth structure and mimics the look of a healthy natural tooth. They can be made of porcelain, ceramic, or sometimes gold for back teeth where extra strength is needed due to increased pressure.
Perry Vale Dental offers two types of dental crowns:
- Temporary Crowns: As indicated by the name, these are a short-term solution used to protect the tooth while waiting for your definitive crown. Made from materials like plastic or metal, they’re easy to remove when it’s time to fit the permanent crown.
- Definitive Crowns: These crowns are intended as a long-term solution, custom-fitted to your teeth and made from durable materials such as porcelain, gold, or ceramic. With proper care, these crowns can last at least 10 years.
Why Might You Need a Crown?
Crowns are used for several reasons, including:
- Rebuilding or strengthening a weakened tooth.
- Improving tooth appearance.
- Protecting a tooth after root treatment.
- Repairing a tooth after trauma or fracture.
Your dentist at Perry Vale Dental will help determine the best treatment for you.
Close the Gap in Your Smile at Perry Vale Dental!
Do you have one or more missing teeth? At Perry Vale Dental, we can bridge that gap! Dental bridges offer both a cosmetic and functional solution, enhancing the appearance of your smile and restoring your mouth’s function for easier chewing and speaking. If you’re dealing with missing teeth, consider bridges as a straightforward and effective way to improve your oral health.
What Are Dental Bridges?
A bridge is a fixed dental prosthetic used to fill a gap caused by missing teeth. It involves cementing a false tooth (or teeth), known as a crown, to the natural teeth adjacent to the gap. This forms the ‘bridge’ that spans the empty space in your mouth.
Preparing for Your Dental Crown Appointment
- Typically, you’ll need at least 3 appointments.
- The initial consultation involves examining your teeth, discussing the procedure, and taking initial molds.
- The second appointment involves preparing the tooth and fitting a temporary crown.
- The final appointment checks the fit and appearance of the definitive crown before cementing.
Duration of Appointments
The preparation appointment lasts about 60 minutes, while the fitting usually takes 30-45 minutes, depending on the case’s complexity.
Post-Appointment Care
- Avoid hot liquids and hard foods initially.
- For temporary crowns, continue normal brushing but avoid hard or sticky foods and chew on the opposite side of the mouth.
- If a temporary crown falls out, contact Perry Vale Dental immediately.
Preparing for Your Dental Bridges Appointment
Your journey to a restored smile at Perry Vale Dental begins with a preparatory visit. Here, your dentist will ready the teeth adjacent to the gap. They’ll remove a small portion of enamel to make space for a crown. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to a lab, where your custom bridge is crafted.
After preparing your teeth, your dentist will fit a temporary bridge to protect your teeth and gums. During your follow-up appointment, this temporary bridge is replaced with your custom-made permanent bridge, securely cementing it into place to seamlessly fill the gap.
Appointment Details for Bridges
You’ll need at least 2 appointments.
- The first visit involves preparing the adjacent teeth and making impressions for the bridge.
- At the second visit, your permanent bridge is cemented into place.
- Additional appointments may be required for adjustments.
