WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Permanent solution for tooth loss

Dental implants represent a common procedure of permanently replacing missing teeth without affecting neighboring teeth.

With the help of dental implants, we can fully remedy toothlessness and thus strongly improve chewing and speaking abilities as well as restore a beautiful smile. Implants can also serve as carriers of a fixed dental bridge or denture.

Dental Implants Q & A

What is the implant procedure like?

The implant procedure usually occurs in three steps. In the initial step, the implant bases will be placed in your jaw in preparation for the placement of the final implants. These bases will need several months to bond with the underlying bone before they'll be strong enough to support the implant and the pressures placed on it. During this time, you'll be given a bridge or denture to wear so your mouth looks and functions the way it should. You'll probably be asked to eat a soft diet during the first week or two to allow the bases to “settle in.”

In the second step, metal posts will be attached to the implant bases. These posts will be used to support the denture, or “faux” tooth, which will be placed in the third visit. Also during the second visit, measurements will be made to enable your faux teeth to be fabricated.

In the third phase, the new teeth are attached to the posts and any shaping or adjustments are made to ensure a good fit and natural appearance.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are designed to last for your entire lifetime, as long as you care for them properly with regular brushing and flossing and ensure you get the nutrition that supports the jaw bone that holds your implants in place. In a nutshell, as long as you do all the “right” things as far as dental care is concerned, your dental implants will last just as long as healthy natural teeth,

Do dental implants require special care?

Your implants will require the same type of care as your natural teeth – regular and proper brushing and flossing, good nutrition and regular dental checkups to ensure your teeth and gums are in the best shape possible.
